Best Apps To Discover Music & Lyrics

What excites many music lovers is the way apps enable you to discover new music that suits your taste. There are thousands of tunes out there, old and new, that you've never heard.
Let's take a look at some of the coolest apps to discover music-

Shazam

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched a TV show, and scene music came on in the background and I thought “I wonder who sings this song.” I’m not sure how I was surviving before Shazam. The app uses your phone’s microphone to listen to the song that’s playing, and identifies the song and the artist. And then, you can purchase those songs directly from the app. It helped me find songs that were playing on HBO’s Girls and Ballers, which helped me support artists I had never heard before.

Shazam has an app for iOS, Android, and Windows phones and watches. The Mac and PC apps for Shazam work in the background, waiting for the need to name a tune. The Shazam app is free, and there’s a paid version called Shazam Encore which is $6.99 in the App Store. The paid app lets you discover soundtracks, song lyrics, music videos, and works with Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify based on your history.

SOUNDHOUND

Move over Shazam — if you're trying to find out what that annoying song you can't get out of your head is, open SoundHound. This app goes a few steps further than Shazam in identifying music all around you. If a song isn't currently playing, you can sing or hum right into the app to find that track you can't get out of your head. The app shows the lyrics of the music it identifies in real time, so if you're listening to something on the radio, it'll display lyrics mid-song. And while Shazam creates a playlist of songs within the app, SoundHound can add songs you find from the app to your personal playlists in Spotify or Rdio.

TUNEWIKI

With TuneWiki, you can make almost any mobile device resemble a miniature karaoke machine. The service lets you check out lyrics of any song you're listening to on your smartphone or tablet, and it translates them into any of 40 languages. It initially became popular for Android and Symbian phones and is now available for iPhone and iPad. It takes music discovery to another level, letting you watch music videos and grab synchronized lyrics that roll along with the song.

A very cool TuneWiki feature is the song map, which allows you to zero in on virtually any location and find out which tunes folks are listening to in that area. If you're obsessed with riding the crest of popular music, TuneWiki gives you access to real-time top 50 charts from around the world. It also lets you connect with friends through your favorite social media site or with fans of a particular band. Those friends and fans become "Muses," and the new songs they like become recommendations for you. The more Muses you have, the more your musical horizons will grow.

LAST.FM

Last.fm is a major music streaming service. Its claim to fame is its ability to help you find music that's likely to be just what you were looking for. Last.fm tracks what you listen to on Internet radio and your various mobile devices, then recommends new music just for you. Last.fm is available for iPhone, Xbox, iPod Touch, Android and Windows Phone 7.

Last.fm does not sell songs, but offers selected downloads for free. You can also listen to short previews of many songs. You can add tracks or purchase tunes directly from the iStore. Last.fm also lets you tag tracks and share them with other Last.fm users.

8TRACKS

This is one of the most perfect apps for music lovers because it gives you access to thousands of playlists created by music lovers just like you. Regardless of what kind of music you like, there is a playlist out there just for you. Having this app on my phone is pretty convenient because I can change the playlist as often as my music mood changes. If I go from wanting to listen to dubstep to wanting classical music, I can easily find playlists to suit my taste.

Must try these apps and tell me which one helped you most to discover new sounds
