This High School Teen Just Got $400,000 From Mark Zuckerberg
Understanding the basics of Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and time dilation isn’t an easy task. However, even if you are able to understand it, your brain becomes hungrier as you start questioning the established laws of physics and nature.
But, an 18-year-old high school student Ryan Chester understood the intricacies and explained the bizzare theory in a low-key video full of humor.
The Breakthrough Prize program was founded in 2012 by Sergey Brin, Jack Ma, Mark Zuckerberg, and Anne Wojcikci to treat the scientist like rock stars. Recently, at this year’s event, Ryan Chester received this award along with others.
Studying at North Royalton High School in Ohio, he has also won the inaugural Breakthrough Junior Challenge, funded in part by a grant from Zuckerberg. The contest asks the teens between the ages 13-18 to create short videos to simplify the big ideas of science and math.
Ryan’s submission was a 7-minute video that explained Einstein’s theory of Special Relativity and surpassed 2,000+ applications from 86 countries and became the winner.

In the form of prize money, he receives $250,000 in educational prizes, his science teacher gets $50,000 and his school gets $100,000 to make a custom science lab.
After this win, Ryan is more hopeful about his college plans and he’s looking at NYU and Northwestern.
