For its key engineers on its product team, Facebook is enforcing a new no-iPhone policy. Before your mind starts exploring the weird possibilities, let me tell you right away- NO, Facebook isn’t holding any grudges against Apple and Mark Zuckerberg hasn’t found a new well-wisher in Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Yesterday during a press briefing , Facebook’s chief product officer Chris Cox said, “I am mandating a switch of a whole bunch of my team over to Android, just because people, when left up to their own devices, will often prefer an iPhone.Facebook is world’s biggest social network and just like every other company, iPhone is a preferred device inside the company. But outside Silicon Valley and USA, things aren’t the same. In the emerging new markets, Android is the dominating operating system.
This has inspired Cox to ask his team to use Google’s mobile OS for “reporting bugs and living in the same experience that most Facebook users experience today.”
It isn’t clear how many Facebook employees are being forced to use Android.
This policy reminds us of the recently introduced 2G Tuesdays in the company that will allow the employees to experience slower speed issue being faced by the people in emerging markets like India.
