Don’t Use Ad-blockers, Yahoo Will Block You

An important issue has came into light that Yahoo is disabling access to its mail services for those users who are using ad-block software on their computers.

At Yahoo, we are continually developing and testing new product experiences. This is a test we’re running for a small number of Yahoo Mail users in the U.S.
– said Yahoo spokesperson Anne Yeh, in a statement published in the New York Times blog.

Similar tactics have been implemented by other big names like the Wall Street Journal in order to maintain the inflow of revenues to provide free content on their website.

Digiday writes,
“They’re likely testing this particular approach, banning ad blocker users, on their email service because they know their users will be forced to disable their ad blocker if they want to check their emails within their web browser,” Tom Yeomans, CEO of Yavli, a company that makes technology to subvert ad blockers.
The internet companies do rely on advertisement revenues to provide content for free and improve their user base, but doing things like these can only contribute to defame themselves, as users might move to other services. And Yahoo has already been struggling to survive since the past few years.
And an internet user also need to understand one simple fact, “nothing comes for free” and these websites are asking you to turn off your ad-blocker. If a website is showing non-intrusive ads, it’s doing this to continue its operations. On the other hand, if a website comes with tons of ads and irritating, your choice is kind of justified.

I do agree that some advertisements are really annoying, and you install ad-blocker for those ads only, but you need to realize that some of them are innocent with no intrusive ads. You can safely disable your ad-blocker software for the websites you love, and you love fab Tech Hub, do you?
